Collecting vintage

What a fabulous thing to collect - vintage patterns! Goodness, it makes me want to have a little girl so bad!!

I have started a couple of collections in my lifetime, but my current obsession is vintage plateware and teacups and old house-wife guides and cooking books. I just picked up a new batch of books today from the 1920s! One of the cooking books describes such things as -
pineapple pie
rhubarb fool
passion fruit butter

It even lists pages and pages of cleaning tips involving borax (I don't even know what that is). There's instructions on how to make a bath mat out of sugar bags and a recipe to "Make us happy and also agreeable to other people"
1 lb. of good temper
2 lbs. of forebearance
1 lb. of patience
1 1/2 lbs. of contentment
3 lbs. of unselfishness
1 lb. of fun
2 lbs. of cheerfulness
Mix well with 2 quarts of milk of human kindness.

Dose: 1 wine glassful first thing in the morning; to be repeated as soon as effect wears off.

Hilarious! Do you have any collections hiding in somewhere?

  1. Hi, thanks for dropping by the other day. I love vintage patterns, although I admit I have no sewing skills. I have a few "favourite things" which have grown to be mini collections, such as sailor dolls and lace irons but I try hard to control myself, cheers Katherine

  2. I just found an old pattern my mum had which I'm going to make a dress for my little girl with. Vintage patterns have such cute simple designs. Thought I'd come for a visit over at your blog and I will definitely be back!
